Andrew WK

The last time Andrew W.K. was in Madison he headlined WSUM’s Party in the Park (now Snake on the Lake Fest). He threw Kit Kats from the stage during “Give Me a Break,” and encouraged the distribution of fake blood among audience members. Then, when the weather turned sour, Andrew challenged the skies screaming, “Bring on the rain! When it rains, I get wet!” before storming into the opening notes of “I Get Wet,” as the downpour ensued. No one can be sure exactly what will happen when we confine the Wolf to four walls, but we can promise that the opening night of Madison Pop Fest will be full of destruction in the form of optimism, courtesy of your friend, Andrew W.K.

We’re not sure what to expect from this opening event, we can only promise that this will be a convocation like nothing you’ve ever seen. The description he gave us of the event follows and seems an oddly appropriate start to our little festival:

“Andrew W.K. mixes music, performance art, lecture, and audience participation in a revival-style setting. It’s entertainment with a healthy dose of punk rock self-help. No two events are ever the same. This Andrew W.K. event is a celebration of community, empowerment, and free speech.”

Check out what the New York Times wrote about this “connoisseur of excitement” and his experiments. Plan on coming? Join the Facebook event and share your pictures and videos. The event starts at 9pm in the Great Hall.
