Great Hall

Last year’s PopFest patrons will remember the Great Hall. Home of last year’s infamous headlining show with Joanna Newsom and hubby Bill Callahan (aka smog) it’s a beautiful room with some great musical legacy. Capacity this year is limited to 650.

Music Hall

Music Hall, the seventh building constructed on campus and the fifth oldest still standing, is located at the foot of Bascom Hill, across the street from the Humanities Building. Built in 1878, it is the home of University Opera productions and the site of several offices and areas for stage construction, costume making, and dressing rooms. The Carol Rennebohm Auditorium, a 380-seat theater renovated in 1985, is one of the most attractive performance halls in the area. The song “On Wisconsin” was first performed in this building in 1909.

der Rathskeller

From the WUD Music Committee’s website: Der Rathskeller is widely recognized as the best place to see live music in the city of Madison. Unless the weather is nice and warm, all concerts at the Memorial Union take place in der Rathskeller. All shows are free and all ages, and a wide variety of food and alcoholic beverages are offered in facilities throughout the Memorial Union.
